Metalcrafters, Incorporated was established in 1943 in a small, dimly-lit shop in Wakefield, Massachusetts. The company’s initial endeavors included producing items like doll carriages, exercise equipment and fabric cutting equipment, to service the growing economy and the booming textile industry in the area.
Along with the growing economy came the explosion of the high tech industry in the Massachusetts area, and Metalcrafters found itself in a time of transition. In the1960’s the company began to work with some of the area’s largest companies to provide them with high-volume precision stampings. In the early 1970’s Metalcrafters again found itself in a time of transition, and turned towards precision sheet metal fabrication. Gone were the days of the high-volume, coil-fed stamping presses, replaced by multi-station turret punch presses and precision press brakes.
This synergy propelled Metalcrafters through the 1980's and into the 1990's. The company gained recognition as a world-class precision metal fabricator, in part by supplying many customers’ facilities throughout the world.

Metalcrafters expanded to multiple disciplines, with separate facilities for prototyping and electromechanical assemblies. The company demonstrated its flexibility and rapid response by providing all equipment, labor, and a dedicated facility to support a major computer OEM -- shipping a large, complex assembly, in a matter of weeks, to their offshore site. Other "firsts" during this period in Metalcrafters’ history included "Dock to Stock" programs that eliminated incoming inspection, and Just-In-Time delivery programs direct to customers' assembly lines.
Metalcrafters was also among the first to adopt cutting-edge technologies such as dimensionless databases, electronic transfer and distribution of manufacturing specifications, and EDI. As the economy continued its long-term expansion through the 90's, so went Metalcrafters -- breaking records, and feeling the pinch of outgrowing our home of the last 50 years. The third generation was in full swing…and starting to plan and actualize their legacy of providing for their children and future grandchildren.
Today, the company has again evolved significantly. In 1999 Metalcrafters moved to its newly renovated 130,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, investing heavily in automation and robotics to position itself for future capacity and growth. Today, we add full-box-build integration and system test and configuration to our list of capabilities. We ship around the country and around the world, servicing customers with the consistent quality we’ve become known for. In 2000 the company received its certification to ISO 9002, and has adopted the philosophy of Total Quality Management.

Metalcrafters has come a long way since 1943, and will always strive to carry forth our legacy with honor and commitment. We offer our customers the best of a well seasoned, experienced and established company coupled with a young, aggressive, future-looking philosophy that will ensure that the twenty-first century continues on the same course that was established in that dimly-lit shop back in 1943.
